Mechanics of Shooting
Shooting a puck is much like golf when it comes to biomechanics, with some minor, okay major exceptions such as body contact and carrying the puck down the ice. However, the degree of accuracy required to align the surface of the blade to the surface of the puck under adverse conditions and then hit a very small target has some parallel qualities. The following video is one of my favorites about golf and kind of explains the mechanical requirements in a humorous way, especially if one thinks of the slap shot.
And of course a serious one.
The mechanics of the slap shot require as many as 19 basic skill elements performed with the the correct joint action and in the correct sequence utilizing the correct muscle muscle type. As in the golf video, it requires the player to coordinate rotational velocities so that the energy exerted creates linear force.
